As the demand for energy saving street light continues to grow, the measurement of lumens plays a key role in evaluating the efficacy of environmentally friendly lighting solutions. By comparing the lumen output of traditional incandescent lamps to that of modern LED or CFL alternatives, organizations and decision-makers can make informed decisions to reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impact.
As we all know, as technology continues to develop, product performance will gradually improve. However, with the booming development of the Internet, products are mixed, and false data makes people dazzled. All of this makes it more difficult for us to choose products that meet our needs. Many of my customers are vague about the concept of lumens and always ask me if there are lamps with 10,000 lumens or more than 10,000 lumens. Combined with this result, in order to make customers have a clearer concept of lumens.
First of all, lumens (expressed as lm) represent the total amount of visible light emitted by a light source per unit time. In layman's terms, it is about the brightness of the lamp. Unlike watts, which measure the energy consumed by a bulb, lumens specifically quantify the brightness of the light produced. This distinction is important because it allows consumers to make clear decisions when choosing lighting products, ensuring that they choose the right brightness for their specific needs.
The concept of lumens is based on photometry, a science that focuses on measuring visible light perceived by the human eye. Through rigorous scientific testing and analysis, researchers have established standardized methods to accurately determine the lumen output of various light sources. This scientific method ensures the consistency and reliability of lumen measurement, providing consumers with a reliable basis for comparing different lighting products.
But lumens also have certain limits of use. In fact, in today's market, people always see flashlights marked with 10,000 lumens or even hundreds of thousands of lumens. But in reality, it is difficult for flashlights to reach this level of lumens, let alone maintain it. Even if there are such high levels, such as 10,000 lumens, its maximum duration is about one second, and when the user turns on the switch, it is best to close your eyes, because this brightness will damage your eyes. When it reaches one second, the brightness of the ultra bright flashlight will gradually decrease over time, and some will even decrease drastically. If the flashlight wants to be used continuously at 10,000 lumens, its outer packaging will heat up, and with the tolerance of human skin, it is impossible to hold it and will hurt yourself. And the current existing technology cannot meet this requirement. If you shine 10,000 lumens of light on paper, the paper will directly catch fire after about a few minutes.

But there are also items that reach tens of thousands of lumens, such as high powered work lights, and solar powered lamp, but not all of them can reach that. If you want a flashlight to maintain a certain amount of brightness continuously, 500LM to 1000LM is actually a good choice. And the brightness in this range is already very bright. When using a flashlight, its outer packaging will heat up slightly, but the human body can hardly feel it. The flashlight heats up because its continuous use of high brightness will cause heat to accumulate and continue to spread to the flashlight. From a practical point of view, understanding lumens is essential to choosing a lighting solution that meets specific requirements. For example, when choosing a bulb for the living room, people can refer to the lumen rating to judge the brightness level that best suits the space. Similarly, in outdoor environments such as gardens or paths, the lumen output of solar landscape lighting can be carefully considered to achieve the desired lighting. By incorporating the concept of lumens into the decision-making process, people can optimize lighting choices for functionality and energy efficiency.
